Mississippi Thriving was created to focus on positive events and stories happening throughout Mississippi. As a native Mississippian, I am proud of the progress we are making. To an outsider looking in, you may not see it, but it is happening. Believe me, Mississippi is thriving. Follow Mississippi Thriving on Instagram and Facebook - @MississippiThriving.
Hope is not built through negativity, but through one positive event after another.

I am one of many food and nutrition experts equipped with the knowledge and skills to work in a variety of industries. We are not limited to clinical or foodservice settings.
Numbers. Trends. Outcomes. Sustainable Programs. Community Health. Those are a few words and phrases that fuel my desire to address problems. There’s always a problem that needs a solution. Research is the mechanism for finding the solution.
I am an individual who has been shaped by my genetics, environment and personal experience. However, at the end of the day, Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs explains it all— I’m just like you.
For more than a decade, I have worked as a research dietitian on community-based research projects with emphasis on health literacy, obesity prevention and nutrition education. Areas of interest are nutrition education, holistic health, and sustainable programs focused on eliminating health disparities. I believe we, as public health leaders, must focus on the overall health of unserved/underserved communities, which includes access to nutritious foods, quality education, adequate housing, employment opportunities, and mental health services. No community can thrive without access to resources and opportunities. With this in mind, I created Mississippi Thriving, a social media platform which informs Mississippians about essential resources available through state, local, and nonprofit organizations. It is my way of contributing to the success of my community. What are you doing to help your community?
My blogs represent my personal journey, my thoughts and my recommendations for connecting communities to research and through research. I believe connecting communities to research will provide access to opportunities that promote health and wellness. It is my mission to inspire others to take an active role in improving the health of their community. Believe it or not, everyone can help…including YOU!
